Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembélé from Borussia Dortmund for a mammoth fee of €140 million last summer as a panic buy after the departure of Neymar. Till date, he has not repaid a single penny paid for him with performances. The young Frenchman has proven to be injury-prone.
And that is not a desirable trait for any player, let alone a player worth €140 million. Dembélé has also had a spat with Ernesto Valverde and some of the senior members of the squad. Lionel Messi and Andrés Iniesta dislike the fact that he doesn’t speak Spanish.
Valverde apparently told Dembélé that he was not ready to play yet before the Eibar game, when he asked for a spot in the eleven based on his price tag. This has led to deterioration in the relationship between him and the rest of the dressing room.
Arsenal have also expressed interest in signing him. They want to submit an offer of €60 million. Barça are scared that they will have to accept this offer if the player himself is set on leaving the Camp Nou.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is intent on pairing up with him, and the idea interests Arsène Wenger too. Ernesto Valverde should talk it out with Dembélé, because he has the potential to do something great.
The French forward is a very talented player with a lot of potential. He has the ability to succeed Lionel Messi as the right forward in the first-team, and can prove his worth when given time. With the fixture list getting congested, Valverde should offer him opportunities in league matches of lesser importance in his preferred position.
If the management is able to maintain a cordial relationship with Ousmane Dembélé, he should not be leaving in the summer.
